Case StudyPIM POC for Robotic Vascular System
About This Project

A surgical robotics subsidiary of a large multinational healthcare organization was seeking a partner to develop several proof-of-concept (POC) patient interface module (PIM) prototypes to serve as part of the user interface for manipulating up to four devices with linear and rotational degrees of freedom.
- Challenges
- Approach & Solution
- Outcomes
• Using a common set of electronics PCBs, switches, encoders, and off-the- shelf components to support 3 different POC input module concepts.
• Incorporating and troubleshooting a Security Chain of Trust DTLS solution.
• Incorporating a design change requiring LED backlights using a daisy chain serial LED electronics and co- processor.
• Approach was to work with client on user and system needs in developing initial prototypes. Full Spectrum was responsible for POC firmware, electronics, and assembly.
• Project was done in multiple phases and iterations, starting with multiple proof-of- concepts based on off-the-shelf development board and ending in a final pre-manufacturing ready IM.
• Developed the software requirements, hazard analysis, full design documentation, and verification protocols for firmware and electronics.
• Windows Test Utility was developed to independently verify the system.
• Client successfully selected the final design from initial prototypes. FS was able to leverage work done in the POC phase, add additional features, and is currently integrating and helping the client commercialize the full system.
